Our Basic Obedience class can help teach you and your dog to live together in harmoney.

It's snowing in ROCKville!

Well folks, it's official. Winter is here! The DC metropolitan area had its first snowfall of the season today. Our four legged guests watched and enjoyed as big wet snowflakes floated to the ground and temperatures dropped to 33 degrees. Other than a few romps in the snow, we stayed warm and dry cozying up with our boarding guests under lamb’s wool bedding (included in every suite) and got our heart rate going by running around with our campers! Things are toasty and dry here at Best Friends Rockville!!

Meet Ellen!

Say Hello to Ellen! You know your pet is comfy with Ellen on the job! She treats all the animals as if they were her own. She loves to cozy with the pooches in their rooms. If Ellen is missing we know exactly where to look, Kitty City where she enjoys spending time with the cats. Ellen loves everything about taking care of your pet! During her free time she loves photography, painting and going to the dog park with her dogs Van Gogh and Hades.

Meet Tomeka, one of our Best Friends Camp Counselors. This girl does it all! Not only is she an awesome Camp Counselor but she is an animal care technician, play time associate and she gives baths & trims nails too! She has 7 years of experience working with animals and she is always ready to expand her knowledge about her favorite four legged friends! When she's not at Best Friends you can find Tomeka cruisin the Internet, playing PlayStation 3 or making awesome videos!

HOWL-O-WEEN!

Our DDC(doggie day camp) Halloween party was a huge success this year! Thanks to all our campers and their parents for participating! We would like to congratulate Pongo the pirate, our first place costume contest winner! AAARRRRR! And kudos to our second place winner Arthur who is the sweetest smelling skunk we know! How low can you go? Just ask Prima Ballerina Zoey who practiced her limbo all week long!

Bad Dogs Inspire Poetic Genius

Thanks to our friend and Washington DC resident, Anne Russell, for her brilliant Facebook group -- Bad Dog Haikus. According to Anne, this group is "dedicated to Lola and all other good dogs who sometimes, just sometimes, do things worthy of memorializing in haiku..." Lola, the Haiku Muse, is an awesome Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, with one of those kooky, quirky personalities you can't help but love. Here is a sampling of some of our favorites:

New Dog Park Opens in Bethesda

The brand new dog park at Cabin John Regional Park at 10900 Westlake Drive in Bethesda is now open. The new Cabin John Dog Park, is the first in the Montgomery County parks system with separate areas for large and small dogs. The large dog park area is about 40,000 square feet in size; the small dog area is 10,000 square feet. The total size of the new Cabin John Dog Park is 50,000 square feet, just over one acre. The dog park is completely fenced and currently FREE to use and open during regular park hours, sunrise to sunset. However, the dog park will be closed from 9:00 am through 11:00 am every Tuesday for weekly park maintenance.

A grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday, October 31—“Howl-O-Ween”— 9:00 am - 12:00 noon. Mark your calendars!!.

Meet Lola & Charo

These Chihuahuas are too-cute-for words and two of our favorites here at Best Friends. The little lovelies are pictured sharing the cot in their suite, mugging for the camera. Lola and Charo have been visiting each month since July for a short stay and what a treat it is to have them. The smooth-coat gal, giving her nose a cleaning...that's Lola. And Charo? Well, she's the one who looks like she's sporting a mohair sweater...but people, that's the real deal. She has the most awesome natural coat. Looking at these two, you just cannot help but smile.
